Major Henry H Bedford was born Nov 27, 1821 in Jackson County Tennessee. At the age of three his family moved to Obion County Tennessee, across the river from Missouri. Henry studied law and came to Mississippi County , Missouri in 1841 , continuing to study law there in the office of Judge Harrison Hoff.

He came to Bloomfield Missouri and began to pratice law in 1846. He married Minerva Lewis Handy in 1852 they had eight children. Major Bedford and members of his family were very prominent in the History of Bloomfield.

Major Bedford during the Civil War commanded a Confederate Battalion for a brief time until ill health ended his service. Bedford's residence was used as a hospital for sometime during the war. Major Bedford and Col Soloman Kitchen were credited for
removing the records from the Court House and transporting them to Arkansas
for safe keeping. Which was a very wise decision in 1864 the town of Bloomfield
was burned down by renegades they destroyed the Court House many businesses and homes including Maj Bedford's.

Henry Hale Bedford passed away Dec 22, 1909 at his home in Bloomfield.His funeral was conducted there with many people from Stoddard County attending. Major Bedford wore many hats and accomplished many things for the town of Bloomfied...he was greatly missed
