His brother Lewis was captured at Bristoe Station, Virginia on October 14, 1863. He was first confined at Old Capital yankee prison, DC and was transferred to Point Lookout yankee prison, Maryland on February 4, 1864. Lewis died at Point Lookout June 25, 1865 of acute diarrhea.
On March 13, 2004, a memorial headstone was installed beside his wife in Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Denton, NC by John Nash and Dewey Snider.
