Lillie M. Porter, 85, daughter of Irene Faught and Paul Mikesell passed
away on December 10, 2016 in Newville, PA. There will be a private service
and burial by Egger Funeral Home Inc. A "Celebration of Life" function will
be held on January 14 from 2-5 pm at the VFW in Newville, PA for family,
friends and associates. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 10, 1931,
Lillie moved with her family to Newville in 1943. She graduated from
Newville H.S. in 1949 with the Senior Athletic Award. After High School,
Lillie completed an accounting degree in 1953 at Central Penn Business
School. Lillie was married to William J. Porter (deceased) on November 26,
1952. They were married for 54 years. During her career years, Lillie was
an Executive Secretary and then Lead Accountant for Masland's Carpet in
Carlisle; a stay at home mom; a Penn Dot Information Specialist; a Real
Estate Broker and a proprietor of a Christmas tree business. Lillie was
also elected as Secretary-Treasurer of West Pennsboro Township and served
as the Democratic Committee Woman and Poll Watcher for many years. She
registered to vote in 1949 and never missed an election--even while in
hospice care. Lillie was an artist who enjoyed oil painting of local
landscapes. She was also an animal lover who cared for many pets, strays
and wildlife. She volunteered for a local animal shelter thrift store until
its closing. Lillie is survived by her daughters Carol Erb and husband
Chuck Erb and Anne Harrison; her grand-children Lorna Erb, Leta, Nicole
and Laura Harrison; her great grand-children Kendall Williams and Arielle
Thronton and many beloved friends.The family welcomes donations to the
American Cancer Society or the ASPCA. The family wishes to thank In Your
Home Care, Christian Companions, Hospice of Central PA and all of Lillie's
friends, neighbors, family members and private caregivers that made it all
possible to keep her in her beloved home with her animal friends.
