Wanda J. Cooper, age 75, Joplin, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at her home with family at her side.
Wanda was born November 5, 1943 in Joplin, daughter of the late Roy and Florence Ackerson. She grew up in Joplin and attended Joplin Schools. She was awarded the Pillsbury Company Award representing the State of Missouri for best pie recipe, her Peach Dream Pie, when she was 15 years old. She travelled to New York City to receive the award which was presented by Ronald Reagan.
Her biggest joy over the years was being a pastor's wife, traveling with Bobby, and ministering in many capacities. She and Bobby enjoyed spending time with the friends they met at National Health Care of Joplin, which they did for over 25 years every Saturday afternoon. She was currently a member of Duenweg Assembly of God.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Ray Cooper, who passed away on January 3, 2013, and a brother, Clarence Ackerson.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Rev. Bobby Cooper, whom she married July 21, 1963; grandson, Bobby L. Cooper of Joplin; great-granddaughter, Halen Sue Cooper of Joplin; brothers, Ronnie Ackerson and wife Linda, and Jack Ackerson and wife Judy all of Joplin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Duenweg Assembly of God with Pastor Bob Winnett officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses that have incurred over the past few months.
