Lucile Nina (Magner) Skadsem was born December 10, 1919 in her parent’s sod home near Rawlins or Decatuer County in Kansas. She was one of nine children born to Harve William Magner and Bessie Mae (Chilson) Magner. Lucile attended a one-room schoolhouse named White Cloud for eight years. When Lucile was fifteen years old she and her family moved to a farm north of Newfolden, MN in New Maine Township.

In 1937, she married Arthur Marselius Skadsem.

Six children were born to this union. Dennis (Marie) Skadsem, Pine Haven, WY, Beverly Boe, Thief River Falls, MN, Ila (Myron) Anderson, Thief River Falls, MN Archie (Anita) Skadsem, Newfolden, MN, Michael (Vicky) Skadsem, Gillette, WY and Michelle Rose, Thief River Falls, MN. Lucile is also very proud to have 22 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Lucile was baptized in the Christian faith at the same time as her son, Dennis.

While living on their farm, Lucile was kept busy being a full-time wife, homemaker and mother. She also helped with farm work, did gardening and canning. Other relatives came and lived in their home, which Lucile always welcomed. Company came anytime of the day or evening and Lucile always made the food reach for everyone.

In 1976, Arthur came home telling Lucile that he wanted to buy a home in Newfolden. Lucile wanted to live in town; so the farm was sold and they moved into Newfolden.

Lucile loved sewing, gardening, entertaining; especially spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She babysat for countless family and friend’s children. When in her sixties, Lucille got her driver’s license and she really enjoyed this new freedom. In her retirement, while living in Newfolden, Lucile cooked for thirteen years for the senior meals. She also kept busy with volunteer work at the school, church and the Senior Center. She embroidered countless dish towels which the seniors sold to the public. Lucile was awarded the honor of Marshall County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen for 2012 and was recognized at the State Fair. She has been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Newfolden for 24 years.

In June 2013 Lucile moved to Minnesota Greenleaf. In January 2017 she moved to the Thief River Care Center until recent.
