Mrs. Ida R. Burton Smith, age 88, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on August 22, l931 in Bedford, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late Selby and Lena Rowlett Burton. She was raised in Trimble County, Kentucky and attended school there. She lived in Portage, Indiana from l957 to l989. She first married Ernest Courtney in November, l947 in Carrollton, Kentucky. This marriage of nine years was blessed with three children. In l957 Ida was united in marriage to Willard Smith, Sr. This union was blessed with two children. They had many happy years together until Willard's passing in l986. Ida moved back to Jefferson County from Portage in 1989. After Willard's passing Ida met Elmo Clubb and they enjoyed a companionship until his death on October 13, 2012. Ida had worked at Smitty's Restaurant in Buffalo, Michigan for eight years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion Auxiliary and was raised and a member of the Sanders Baptist Church. Ida enjoyed playing games, working puzzles, crosswords, and was an avid U.K. fan. Ida died on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

Ida will be missed by her loving daughters, Patti Gunter of Portage, Indiana, Teresa Harbison and her husband Joseph of Portage, Indiana; her son in law, Jimmy Sinks of Richmond, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Chris Harbison, Brandon Sinks, and Roberta Heath; her great grandchildren, Garrett, Shawn, Chris, Jr., Summer, and Hope; her sisters, Florene Spry of Madison, Indiana, Jean Reed of Madison, Indiana, and Brenda Brittian of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Selby Burton, her mother, Lena Rowlett Burton, her late husband, Willard Smith, Sr., her sons, Larry Courtney and Willard Smith , Jr., her daughter, Norma Sinks, her companion, Elmo Clubb, her grandson, Joseph Harbison, Jr., her brothers, Morton Burton, Darrell Burton, Ricky Blaine Burton, her sisters, Mamie Boone, Eula Young, Rachel Copeland, Delma Breeden, and Rita Brady.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Troy Hedges at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Brooksburg Cemetery near Madison, Indiana.
