Known for his portrayal of Dr. Watson in the Granada TV series Sherlock Holmes. He had other numerous television appearances from 1978 to 2010 included Holocaust, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Oppenheimer, Lovejoy, Dangerfield, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, David Copperfield, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Fanny Hill, Holby City and Shameless, as a World War II veteran.
