She was the mother of Bill Withers, recording artist, whos record, "Ain't No Sunshine," sold over a million copies. Withers presented his gold record to his mother in Beckley last June.
Mrs. Withers died at 2:30 pm Wednesday following an apparent heart attack. She had been visiting a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Harper of Nanuet, NY, and had planned to go from there to California to live with her son.
She is also survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Agnes Luster of 105 Mellon St., and Mrs. Florence Mather, New York City; another son, Eugene Martin, Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William H. Withers, died in 1951.
