Martin Joseph Carr was the son of Hugh Carr and Mary McDonough. He had 8 siblings; Patrick, Martin, James, Adelia, Hugh, Joseph, John, Mary; with the first two being born in Ireland. His parents immigrated to the United States around 1863 settling in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. They then moved to Fayette County, Iowa in June, 1869. Martin Joseph married Anna O'Brien February 22, 1887 in Fayette County, Iowa. They had 7 children, 5 being born in Iowa and the last 2 in North Dakota, Hugh, Marie, Florence, Veronica, Anna, Elizabeth, Charles. Martin bought a farm next to his brother, James in Fayette County, Iowa. Martin took his family around 1905 to homestead in Equality and later in Ray, North Dakota. Martin went into the real estate and banking business. In the 1920 census he was an owner of a grocery store. In the 1930 census, Martin and Anna are now living in Los Angeles, California. His daughter Anna Loretta Carr Crain moved to California in 1927 with some of his other children following them. Martin and Anna are buried in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Culver City, California.
