Nathan was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Company G (Warren Defenders), 43rd North Carolina Troops on February 13, 1862 at the age of 33, for the war. He was wounded in the right hand near Drewry's Bluff, Virginia on May 16, 1864 and returned to duty in September 1864.

He was admitted to the Confederate Soldier's Home in Raleigh, North Carolina on October 6, 1911 and died there on November 19, 1911.

He is buried ib Division 8, Series 3, Grave 36.

He is the son of Emanuel Harrison Breedlove and Eleanor Clarke.
