A pupil in the first grade in Lyra school, Albert Adams, 5, died at 6 p.m. Thursday of diphtheria. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Adams ( Viola Hays ) of Lyra community.
The child became ill a week ago and was sent home from school, then the first of this week returned to the classroom and was sent home again. After the disease was diagnosed as diphtheria Thursday noon by Dr. A. B. Mills in his office in New Boston, the child was taken to the home of Z. A. Hale, 3925 Rhodes av, where he passed away.
He was born Jan. 5, 1941 in South Webster.
He is survived by his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Leadingham, Mrs. Evelyn Artrip, and Mrs. Virginia Purcell of Wheelersburg Rt. 2 and Phyllis, at home; and three brothers, Dexter, Clyde and Lloyd of Detroit.
A private funeral was to be held today at McCurdy & Scott Funeral home, and burial was to follow in Vernon Cemetery.
