Linda Wooten Ballington, age 66, passed away on December 30, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Dean Ballington, and her parents, Marion Walton Wooten Sr. and Sarah Whitmire Wooten. Linda is survived by her children, Marion Harley Ballington, Amy Terese Ballington, Jessica Ballington Morin (Roger), Crystal Ballington Rodgers (Troy) and Todd Ballington (Pat.) Linda is survived by her much loved grandchildren William Thomas Ballington Moore, Serita Terri-Ann Flowers, Adrian Dean Ballington, Caleb Dakota Bailey, Wyatt Lee Perez, Zachariah Alexander Morin, Matthew Patterson, Lisa Nave (Matt), Stephanie Lee (Randy), and Savanna Rodgers as well as great grands Aiden McCreary, Austin Lee and Lilly Singleton. Linda is also survived by her eight siblings and their spouses, Kathryn (Kitty) Wooten Hutchens, Mary Wooten Scoggins (Irvin), Marian Faye Wooten Brazzell, Melanie Wooten Langley, Tracy Wooten Moore (Randy), Marion Wooten Jr. (Jessica), Ernest Wooten (Christina), and Janet Wooten Tinajero (Jesús).
Our sweet Linda was compassionate, loving, kind and generous to a fault. Throughout her life, she served as a correctional officer, security guard and spent many years as a bookkeeper for auctions. Her first love was Elvis Presley and she adored Highlander enough to travel to England for a convention. Linda was not only an avid reader, she shared her love for reading and garnered that same passion for books in others. Linda was very social and loved to spend time with family and friends, and she loved cooking. She even named her own dish Linda’s Special Delight (LSD!) Linda was also well known as our family geaniologist. She researched and read everything she could get her hands on, spent countless hours in the SC Department of Archives and History learning about our ancestors and traveled deep into the country side to visit cemetaries to make familial connections.
Linda was the first army dependent born in the Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone. Perhaps this and her father’s army deployments are what fueled her love to travel. She grew up traveling as an army brat to Panama, Germany, Fort Knox, Fort Gordon, Fort Bragg, and Fort Jackson.
If you asked Linda what her favorite activity was, we guarantee it would involve a tent! Linda adored camping more than life itself! She enjoyed being outdoors, sitting around a campfire, playing cards and sharing meals at the picnic table, scooting around to visit with family members and making new friends at the campgrounds, and just enjoying her time making memories.
A funeral service will take place at 4:00pm on Saturday, January 23, 2020 at Red Bank Baptist Church Family Life Building.
