Philip Lowd was a State Trooper for the Oregon State Police. He served 18 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 52. Officer Lowd and two other Police Officers responded to a house where a man had shot at a crew of a Forestry Survey Agency. As the Officers approached the house, the suspect opened fire upon them. Officer Lowd was gunned down. The suspect fled into a nearby Forest, where he was sought during a massive manhunt for four days. The suspect was captured and in October of 1952, 4 months later, he was sentenced on second-degree murder and sentenced to Life in Prison. He died in the Oregon State Hospital, years later. He was survived by his wife Claudia LaVerne Klum Lowd.
