She owned a craft shop, Polly's Playhouse, in the Farmer's Market in South Bend, IN prior to retiring in Bradenton, FL. In 1983 after her husband's death, she volunteered for the Westside Christian Church "Helping Hands" group. Upon moving to Lakeland, she focused her volunteer work at the schools where her daughter Tony taught. She was known to the children as "Grandma Polly" and her wheelchair was a familiar and welcomed sight to the Polk County Schools. She was Area Senior Volunteer of the Year in 2003-2004 and Northwest Area Volunteer of the year in 2000-2001.
She is survived by her three daughters and four grandsons; Timothy Earl Crouch, Roger Todd Crouch, Lance Robert Harden and Victor Frederic Harden; two great grandsons, Jordan Timothy Crouch and Isaac Earl Augustus Crouch; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. at North Lakeland Presbyterian Church.
