Born a coal miner's daughter December 6, 1933 in Lando Mines, WV, to Clyde and Trula (Hess) Maynard. The majority of her life was spent in Shelby. The fourth child of twelve, she was the first-born daughter and was nicknamed "Betty" by her father. She grew up in Lando Mines and Delbarton, WV, and was a majorette and proud graduate of Burch High School. On January 30, 1960, she married the love of her life, Stanley Hensley, Jr. She was a dedicated wife and mother raising her family in Shelby, Ohio. The family attended the local Little Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church, and Ruth was also a longtime member of the United Baptist Church in Delbarton. She was employed at the Shelby McDonald's where she was the morning greeter, affectionately known as "The Hostess With The Mostest". She had a passion for sporting events and was the number one fan of her children and grandchildren while they participated in baseball, softball, band and flag corps.
Survivors include one son, Ed Hensley of Shelby; four daughters, Cathy (Doug) Hamilton of Shelby, Frances (Tom) Dixon of Lima, Vicki (Earl) Strine of Kings Mountain, NC, and Rhonda (Mark) Carey of Mansfield; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six brothers, Clyde (Thelma) Maynard of Dayton, Charles (Louise) Maynard of Medina, Jim Maynard of West Milton, Doug and Ted Maynard, both of Shelby, and Richard Hess of Varney, WV; one sister, Alice (Bob) Jordan, of Shelby; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives; and her many friends and care givers at Heritage Care Center who were like family to her.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rush Stanley, Stanley Hensley, Jr., and Walter Mitchell; two brothers, Billie and Roy Maynard; two sisters, Fran Dunkin, and Wanda Bittinger.
