Mary Elizabeth Davidson Lyles passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 24, 2021.

Mary's life began June 18, 1937 in Bedford County, TN, where she attended Bedford County Training School before graduating from Cambridge Catholic High School in Cambridge, MA.

It was in Cambridge, that Mary met the love of her life, William Lyles Jr and married him February 22, 1958. Together, they raised 3 sons, William III, Kevin (Lisa), James (Debbie) while experiencing life as an Air Force spouse at duty stations around the country. Her love for her boys and her husband was exceeded only by her love and commitment to her Lord, Jesus Christ. She also found great joy later in life when she had the privilege of being the grandmother of Ashley, Travis, Trent and Matthew. Mary was also the eldest of her loving siblings, Mattie Bostic (Jack) of Nashville, TN; Deloise Rhodes (Melvin) of Nashville, TN; Sandra Avent of Shelbyville, TN; and Keith Avent (Cynthia) of Murfreesboro, TN. Her love was also extended to a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary loved spending time in God's word and praying for her family and others. Her life was lived for Jesus, and was characterized by a generous spirit, an expressive joy, and faithful friendships to many no matter where she lived. She was successful in the most important and God-honoring ways.

Preceded in death by her parents, Herman Davidson and Lovie (Samuel) Avent; brothers-in-law, Rod Lyles, James "Mickey" Lyles, Melvin Rhodes and Jack Bostic; a special uncle and aunt, Richard and Kittle Rippy.

Mary's life will leave a smile in the hearts and minds of her family and many friends everywhere. She was truly a remarkable wife, mother, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Mary E. Lyles to World Victory Church and Life Center, 5900 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, VA 23605.

Viewing will be April 29, 2021 at O. H. Smith and Son Funeral Home. Due to COVID 19 restrictions the funeral service will be private.
