Donald F. Purkey, 79 of Tecumseh, died December 27, 2006 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 5, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio the son of Leno and Dorothy (Fallis) Purkey. On June 19, 1948 he married Bonnie Lou Shafer and she survives.

Don was the owner and operator of Lenawee Fuels, Inc/Perky Pantries. He was a member of the Tecumseh Country Club and past member of the Tecumseh Club, American Legion, and the First Presbyterian Church. Don served two terms on the Tecumseh City Council. He sincerely believed in giving back to his community, was very involved in Tecumseh's history, and was instrumental in getting the water wheel restarted at the Tecumseh Community Center. Don proudly served his Country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was also an avid sportsman and enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife Bonnie, he is survived by four daughters Deborah (James) Lawson of Tecumseh, Donna (Tom) Gallant of Santa Barbara, CA, Pamela (Bruce) Litchford of Saline, and Betsy (Don) Hortenberry of Hoagland, IN; seven grandchildren Courtney and Tate Lawson, Heather (Ken) Heers, Tom (Dani) Litchford, Katie (Matt) Chaiken, Megan (Justin) Keteyian, Brad (Savannah) Lewis; three great-grandchildren Hannah and Kyle Heers and Tristan Lewis; three brothers Robert Purkey of Brooklyn, Richard (Florine) Purkey of Tecumseh and James (Beverly) Purkey of Nokomis, FL; two sisters Betty (Robert) Williamson and Lois Tilton both of Tecumseh; as well as several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew Tom Tilton.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment at Brookside Cemetery will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to Handler Funeral Homes, Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Herrick Memorial Hospital Foundation or to Hospice of Lenawee.
