Thomas Robert Donnelly was the youngest of four children of John Dardis Donnelly and Catherine Marie Costigan Donnelly. Thomas was born on July 19, 1927 in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. On December 28, 1930 at his home at 150 Hobart Avenue in Syracuse, his bathrobe caught fire from contact with a space heater. More than two weeks later, Thomas died of his burns on January 13, 1931. Three days after his death, his funeral was conducted at his home followed by a blessing of the body at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He was then buried in a single plot at Section: 2, Block: 3, Lot: 1, Space: 1 at Saint Mary's Cemetery in DeWit, Onondaga County. The grave is unmarked.
Thomas R. Donnelly's grandfather, Thomas John Donnelly, had three grandsons named for him. A few years after Thomas R. Donnelly was born the son of John Dardis Donnelly, John Dardis Donnelly's brother, Thomas James Donnelly, had two sons named Thomas J. Donnelly and Thomas M. Donnelly.
The Donnellys are descended from the powerful Irish clan of Ui Neill who claimed the High Kingship of Ireland from the 7th to the 11th century AD.
Thanks to Tina Smith and all the wonderful staff at Syracuse Catholic Cemeteries and all the Donnelly and Rahrle family researchers for much of this information. Thanks to Ed M. for the photo of the unmarked grave of little Thomas. Any errors are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. If a closer relative would like to manage this site, please let me know. I would love to see a photo of Thomas added to the site.
