"J. MONROE MERCER, who was at one time connected with the freight department of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad company, and well-known in Baltimore, died at his residence at Font Hill, near Ilchester, Howard county, on Saturday morning, of a malignant form of typhoid fever, from which he had been suffering but a few days. Mr. Mercer was forty-nine years old, the son of late Colonel John Mercer, of West River, Anne Arundel county, and a nephew of ex-Governor Swann. He married a neice (sic) of the late Johns Hopkins, and leaves a widow and four children. During his illness Mr. Mercer became a member of the Catholic Church. The remains will be interred at Greenmount this afternoon."
