James Apker was a native of Wisconsin. In 1882 he married Alice A. Kimball Apker, also a Wisconsin native, and they were the parents of two sons, Burr and Bruce. James's obituary notice in the 6 June 1937 of the Wisconsin State Journal states that he died in Middleton, Dane County, Wisconsin, and that he was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo, Wisconsin, a fact confirmed by cemetery records. His gravesite is among those of other family members.
