David W. 'Dave' Hansen
September 24, 1921 — July 27, 2006
Former East County resident David 'Dave' W. Hansen, 84, died Thursday, July 27, of Lou Gehrig's disease. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at the Charbonneau Golf Club, 32020 S.W. Charbonneau Drive, Wilsonville.
Dave was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Farmington to William and Esther Hansen. He was raised and educated in Tualatin. When he was young, he held a number of jobs and once worked as a singing delivery boy for Western Union.
Dave enlisted in the National Guard in June 1940. During World War II, he served with the 41st and 24th Army infantry divisions in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in October 1945, having attained the rank of first lieutenant.
On Dec. 27, 1945, David married Frances 'Dot' Oliver. After his marriage, he continued his education at the University of Washington. He then worked as an insurance underwriter for United Pacific Insurance Company in Seattle.
Dave later moved back to Oregon and in 1954 opened Hansen Insurance Agency in Gresham. He served as the CEO of the company after he merged with Walrad Insurance Agency in 1956. Then, in 1984, Dave merged the company with Campbell, Galt and Newland, after which he served as vice president until he retired in 1994. In 1987, Dave moved to Wilsonville.
Dave was a founding member and officer of Mount Hood Security Bank and served as president of the Gresham Chamber of Commerce and the Gresham Rotary Club. He volunteered with the Salvation Army and the National Paraplegia Foundation, among others.
He enjoyed spending time at his family's cabin in Rhododendron, and fishing, skiing and traveling with his wife. He also enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife; son, Kevin Hansen of Eugene; and daughter, Lisa McDonald of Portland.
