Anne Marie Bailey, 49
Vancouver, British Columbia
Grief is natural, 'nonproductive'
Michael Simard, the widower of veterinarian technician Anne Marie Bailey, said he has no plans to come to Lexington for a memorial.
"Grief is ... a natural thing, but it is nonproductive," he said
"It's too emotional, and the last thing I need to do is continue to stir up the emotions. That's not what I want to do ... and that happens anyway regardless, right? It happens on your downtime when you're alone and whatnot."
Instead, Simard said he will continue to focus on a foundation for sick children that he started in his wife's memory.
Before moving to Canada, they worked and lived together in the Turks and Caicos Islands, where they would dive, water ski and ride motorcycles.
"Anne was very positive," he said. "She basically woke up every day with a smile on her face and a very good attitude, which is somewhat rare."
In September, he said, he plans to quit his current job and move to Vancouver Island, where they had planned to live.
He said he plans to concentrate his efforts on the charity, finish a feature length movie about jazz musicians in Vancouver and continue his painting.
