Perlie M. George was born to a large family in Louisiana. He proudly served in World War II and was on the USS Houston when it was torpedoed and sunk by the Japanese. He spent the following years as a POW until the end of the war. Mr. George wed Doreen Myrone in October 1949. He brought his bride to the United States where they had two children, Perlie J. George and Elizabeth M. George. Mr. George retired from the US Navy in 1961. After retirement, he settled with his family in Houston, Texas where he remained until his death. He passed away from heart failure in April 1983.
