Jerry Petty Sheppard, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and Papa to 5 precious grandchildren, passed away peacefully and without pain on February 8, 2022 in Fort Worth in the presence of his family.

He was born in Clarksville on September 15, 1944 to Zeno and Mabel Storey Sheppard. He loved playing Tiger football and reliving the games at Clarksville High School and was a 1962 graduate.

He attended Paris Junior College and Texas A&M-Commerce where he graduated with a B.S. degree. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and as their pledge trainer, he recruited their largest pledge classes. He met his future wife, Anita Joyce Wells, when her sorority, Alpha Phi, joined his fraternity in a Heart Fund Drive on February 19, 1965, stealing each other's hearts.

They married in Dallas on August 19, 1967, and began their first teaching jobs, penniless but happy. He was a junior high football and basketball coach who taught Texas history. His coaching career went on to include high school football as an offensive and defensive coordinator, basketball and baseball coach, and a head football coach and athletic director.

Weary of what a teacher/coach is paid, he ventured into the business world, proving to be an entrepreneur owning a restaurant, a newspaper, a trophy shop, and more. Increasingly interested in real estate, he became a realtor and then a broker, owning and operating 3 Century 21 offices, 2 in Lindale and 1 in Mineola. Century 21, recognizing his talents, offered him a job as regional marketing director at their Las Colinas office in Irving. He took their offer, sold his 3 offices, and was soon promoted to the field marketing director for Century 21 International based in Irvine, CA. Growing tired of the constant travel required and being away from his family, he resigned his position. Returning his family to Texas, he returned to coaching and teaching and retired in 2009.

His civic duties included president of the Clarksville Jaycees; secretary, treasurer and president, Lindale Rotary Club and chosen Rotarian of the Year; president, Products and Service Counsel of the Houston Apartment Association (during his venture into business), and president of the East Texas Pop Warner Football Association.

His interests included watching and coaching his kids and grandkids' sports activities, raising Brahman cattle and quarter horses, riding his tractor when he wasn't riding his Harley, taking his family on vacations in his latest motorhome, designing/supervising the construction of houses for his family, and entertaining family and friends at Lake Texoma. He was the biggest University of Texas fan ever!

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Storey Sheppard and wife Bettye, and stepmother Margaret Sheppard.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Anita Sheppard of Fort Worth, son Scott Sheppard and wife Chris of Colleyville, son Judson (Judd) Sheppard and wife Leigh of Fort Worth, brother Wayne Sheppard and fiancé Elizabeth Wright of Carrollton; his grandchildren are Luke Sheppard and wife Tabitha, Jacob Sheppard, Cole Sheppard, Margaret Ann Sheppard, and Judson Storey Sheppard, Jr.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 AM, Friday, February 18, 2022, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Don Shovan officiating.
