Services for Mrs. Gaurah Bliss are Held Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Gaurah E. Bliss, 87, lifelong Princeville community resident, were held Monday afternoon in the Princeville Methodist Church with Rev. Samuel Parker officiating. Mrs. Gladys Pierce accompanied the singers, Mrs. Irene Lansdown and Mrs. Hazel Hibbs, as they sang “In the Garden” and “Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone”.
Burial was in the Princeville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Bliss, Palmer Bliss, Marvin Bliss, Armond Foster, Fred Yess and Leo Graves, Sr.
Mrs. Bliss was born in Princeville township October 18, 1877, a daughter of Martin L. and Eliza Phares Sniff, and passed away in the Methodist Hospital in Peoria Friday, Aug. 6, following a long illness. April 27, 1896, she married David S. Gray. He passed away in 1928. March 24, 1938, she married Rev. John F. Bliss, and he preceded her in death in 1958.
She had resided in the Princeville community her entire life. The last three years she had made her home with a nephew, Glenn Sniff. She was a member of the Princeville Methodist Church, Circle Two, ad the Worthwhile Sunday School class.
She was a 50 year member of Union Grove Chapter, No. 229 Order of Eastern Star.
The only survivors are nieces and nephews. One brother preceded her in death.
