Frederick Joseph Algaier, age 81, of Marceline, Mo., died Sunday, January 6, 2008, at his home in Marceline. Fred was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 11, 1926, to E.L. and Mary Frances (Reynolds) Algaier. He married Virginia M. Pitts on July 26, 1947, and she survives of the home in Marceline. Fred was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in Iwo Jima and he worked as a journeyman electrician at IBEW 124 of Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of the Christian faith, VFW Post #1471 and American Legion Post #264 of Marceline, IBEW 124 of Kansas City for 60 years, and a Marceline resident since 1976, coming from Grandview, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of the home; sons, Joseph William Algaier, Belton, Mo., Mark David Algaier and wife Lynn, St. Joseph, Mo.; daughters, Jan Warren Harders and husband Larry, Longmont, Colo., Elizabeth R. Hooper, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, E.L. Jr. and John Algaier; daughter-in-law, Sandy Algaier; and son-in-law, Jerry Warren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with Rev. Grady Todd officiating. Burial with military honors in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials may be made to First Christian Church at Marceline and these may be left at or mailed to Delaney Funeral Home, 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, MO 64658 (660) 376-2040.
