Kadar Shannon Kemp was a loving father and beloved brother, son, and friend, who is fondly remembered to this day. While he never actually married and died young, sadly, his family is a lasting legacy, along with his infectious smile.

His lot is three rows back from the road, first right in the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery, and two small trees make the site visible even during the winter.

Anchorage Daily News July 21, 1990

Anchorage resident Kadar Kemp, 21, an automobile mechanic, died July 18 at Humana Hospital Alaska. A visitation was held at Muldoon Community Assembly. A funeral immediately followed at the church with the Rev. Kent Redfern officiating.

Mr. Kemp was born Feb. 15, 1969, in Zambales, Philippines. At the age of 2, he moved to Contra Costa, Calif., and then to Alaska in 1980, where he decided to make his home. He was serving an auto mechanic apprenticeship under his uncle. He enjoyed art, the outdoors and had a knack for anything mechanical, his family said.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnne, his daughter, Shannon, and his son, Jesse, all of Anchorage; his mother, Ruth Chastain of Anchorage; his father, Robert of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his sisters, Genevieve Gravatt and Venus Gravatt of Anchorage; his paternal grandparents, Lee and Wilma of Big Bear City, Calif.; and his aunts and uncles, Ray and Mary Piper III of Lahaua Beach, Calif., James and Lisa Piper of Big Bear City, and JoAnne Arnold of Antioch, Calif.; and several other relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Kadar Kemp's Children's Memorial Education Fund, at any National Bank of Alaska branch. Burial will be in the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral. Funeral arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street.
