Resided in Montgomery County, North Carolina and enlisted in Company C (Montgomery Volunteers), 23rd North Carolina Infantry at Guinea Station, Virginia on January 31, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 2-3, 1863. Returned to duty prior to May 1, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured at Winchester, Virginia on September 19, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout yankee prison, Maryland until paroled and transferred to Boulware's Wharf, James River, Virginia where he was received on March 18, 1865 for exchange.
