He was born October 15, 1929 in Geneva, IL. to Philip A. and Amy (Burdett) Russell. He married Beverly Jean Chamberlain on September 30, 1948.
Don was a graduate of the St. Charles High School- Class of 1947. He played on the football state championship team. He was employed for over 30 years at the Valley View Boy's School, as their Chief Engineer.
Don enjoyed gatherings and holidays with his family and especially spending vacations and going fishing with his grandchildren. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and devoted to his Church and their men's group.
Don enjoyed telling and hearing jokes. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of almost 74 years, Beverly; son, Larry Russell; daughter, Peggy (Jeff) Glass; 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Carrie) Russell, Holly Russell, Sean (Jamie) Russell, Daniel (Taylor) Eldredge, Sarah (Nicholas) Gustafson and Emily (Alex) Vacek; 11 great grandchildren, Taya, Kyle, Cassidy, Will, Makenna, Abigail, Bella, Blake, Finn, Hudson and Waylon; brother-in-law, Marvin Abramson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Jody Russell and sister, Dorothy Abramson.
His visitation will be on Saturday, June 25th from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM.
Burial will follow at the Victor Cemetery in Leland, IL.
