James Horace Dockery, age 74, of Murphy, NC passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Murphy Medical Center in Murphy, NC.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC; he was the son of the late James William McKinley and Lola Lee McCray Dockery. He was employed by Timber Products for many years and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. James enjoyed fishing, camping and ramp hunting. He loved to spend time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, A.V. Dockery and three sisters, Anna Mae Dockery, Mildred Gaddis and Nina Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eloise Janet Dockery of Murphy, NC; two sons, James Kenneth Dockery and wife, Margie Lee of Marble, NC and Scotty Lee Dockery and Amy Dockery of Murphy, NC; two daughters, Janet Juanita Walsh and husband, Riley of Murphy, NC and Patricia Ann Dockery McCoy of Andrews, NC; two brothers, Dan Dockery and Robert Dockery both of Murphy, NC; two sisters and their husbands, Kathleen and Junior Johnson of Murphy, NC and Mary Ruth and Maynard Davis of Albany, GA; adopted daughter, Teresa Gail Robinson of Andrews, NC; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday March 30, 2011 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Marble, NC with Rev. Carroll Roper officiating. Interment will be held in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Kenneth Dockery Jr., Scotty Lee Dockery Jr., Joshua Dockery, Donnie Dockery, Tim Beavers, Joel Trull, Billy Joe Derreberry and Matt Sowell.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to, Eloise Janet Dockery, 12 Little Brook Lane, Murphy, NC 28906 to help the family with expenses.
