He was a ironmonger, working at a foundry to support his family, but he was a noted musician, band leader, conductor, and arranger. His bands would perform regularly in the Central Park concerts of the time. Before long, music was his livelihood. His sons and daughter were talented musicians also. Late in life, he became a music publisher. He died on October 8, 1948, in Manhattan, New York, at the age of 84. He was cremated at Fresh Pond Crematory 61 40 Mt Olive Crescent, Queens, NY 11379. Richard's niche is in the community space 310.
