Reportedly the son of Milton & Mary Davis, in 1850 he was living with his family in Columbia, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, but is not found in the 1860 census.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-seven in Columbia August 10, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 20 as a private with Co. B, 45th Pennsylvania Infantry. All his military records including his pension index identify him by his middle name.
He honorably discharged by order of the War Department to date June 7, 1865.

He married Elizabeth Lockard and fathered Kate (b. 01/13/78 - married Henry Lyle Bennett) and Lola L. (b. 04/12/79). Cause of death reportedly was pneumonia, but no obituary was found in any online newspaper archive.
