In 1918, Fred, Charley and Ralph not only lost their father and brother Mark to the flu epidemic, but their maternal grandparents, an aunt and uncle and a 10 year old cousin. His mother would be dead by the time he turned 15. Three years later, his brother Ralph would die. In 1932, his brother Charley would be murdered in the largest massacre of police officers of all time.
Fred S. Houser died in Los Angeles California on July 2 1964.
note:
records indicate that he was married to Edna Maurine Loyd in about 1930. They had a daughter, Barbara Jean Houser who was born in Sept of 1931. By 1940, Federal Census shows Fred S. Houser, now divorced, living in California. Maureen (Edna M. Loyd Houser) and daughter Barbara are living in Detroit Michigan, with Maureen listed as being married and using the last name HOUSER. Edna or Maurine as she was sometimes known, was married at least 4 times.
Note:
In an interview by Augusta Sutton (Fred's brother's common law wife) on Jan 22, 1932, she mentions the fact that she and her "husband" took Fred and his wife in their home last summer and that their baby had even been born in their home. That would put Fred's daughter being born in 1931.
