He overcame many things in his life, including the well management of his physical and mental illnesses, and he was 36 years sober this last July 16 (2022), having worked with many others over the years to achieve sobriety too. One day at a time.
Brent volunteered his time to speak to groups (high schools etc) about sobriety and mental illness. He figured if just one person in that crowd went off feeling like "hey I can live with this illness", or "I can get out of these destructive habits" then his time had been well spent.
One of the best periods of Brent's life that he enjoyed, was when he danced with his cousin Juliette at her dance school. Under her instruction, Brent became a darn good dancer.
Brent was charming, hilarious, calm, and wise, and inspired many people on a daily basis. He was a strong support person to those who were lucky enough to be close with him. Brent's gift was his heart of gold.
His sudden passing leaves to grieve, his partner of 20 years Melanie Leis; son Travis (Amy), and daughter Shelbie (Andrew), Kari Peter, Mel's family, and other family members including his sister/close friend Beverley Hunter and his brother Bart (Cindy) Hunter; stepmother Vivian, stepsisters Donna (Eric), and Gwen Dodd, and stepbrother Brent Dodd.
Also left to remember him are his grandchildren Lucas, Cal and Annalae, several nieces and nephews, many cousins (especially on the Marin side, as his mother was the youngest of 8), and other extended relatives. Special thanks to close friends Larry, Mike, Albert and Harv to name a few, for always being there.
Brent loved having coffee and a chat, politics, a good meal (steak!), and sports - especially basketball (he played and coached for years). He enjoyed oldies music and his favourite song was "My Way" by Frank Sinatra - Brent definitely did it his way. He will never be forgotten.
