Nettie was the 4th child of George Frith and Henrietta F. Brimlow. Only she and her sister Ada survived to maturity. Her mother died when Nettie was nine and her father did not remarry.

Nettie married her first cousin George McLean on 12 Jul 1893. He died 25 Mar 1915. She changed the spelling of the family name from McLean to MacLean after George's death (1915) and prior to the 1920 Census.

Nettie next married Alfred Abell (1870-1962) between 1920-30. She appears on the 1930 census as wife. Granddaughter Shirlee Walker stated that she though Alfred was the handyman as he cooked and cleaned but took his meals in the kitchen while Nettie and her family ate in the dining room. She had no idea they were married until after Nettie's death. Nettie lists herself as married on the 1940 census but Alfred is not in the household. He's in Catskill, Greene Co., NY, where he remains until his death in 1962. It is unknown if they ever divorced. Nettie's interment record reads MacLean, Nettie (Abell).

George and Nettie had six known children:
1. Stillborn boy (1894)
2. Susan Wynn (1887-1993) m1 John T. Kelley m2 Edmund Griffin
3. Margaret Frith (1899-1977) m1 Harry Walker m2 Lloyd Thomas
4. Ada Mae (1901-1982) m1 John K. Stillwell m2 Henry Sykulski
5. Edward Frith (1906-1988) m. Dorothy Coleman
6. Welling Seely (1908-1964) m. Mabel Ramee

Her sons are buried in this plot, but her daughters were all cremated and scattered.
