Christopher R. Niebuhr, 83, formerly of Stockbridge, died Friday, June 1, 2018.

Born in New York City, Christopher was the son of the late theologians Reinhold and Ursula Keppel-Compton Niebuhr.

The Niebuhrs summered in Stockbridge for a number of years and then, in the 1960s, became full-time residents. Mr. Niebuhr attended schools in New York City and graduated from Harvard College. He served honorably with the US Army from 1956 until 1962, and thereafter worked in various positions as a city planner for the State of New York. He was also a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and spent several seasons on their projects aiding the impoverished and homeless in Indonesia.

Mr. Niebuhr leaves behind his sister, Elisabeth Niebuhr Sifton, and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 8, at 11AM at the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge with Pastor Brent Damrow officiating. There will be a reception in the Jonathan Edwards Room immediately following the service.
