McCandliss, 77, a resident of Old Hwy 49 in the Orange Grove Community, was pronounced dead on arrival at Gulfport Memorial Hospital Thursday at 12:20 p.m. Mr. McCandliss was born Dec. 24, 1891 at Fairmount, Ind., and had resided on the Coast since 1917. He was a retired statistician with the Department of Agriculture. Mr. McCandliss was educated at Anderson, Ind., and a graduate of A and M College. He was a member of Gulfport Lodge 422, F&AM, and an elder of First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, where he taught the Casper Class. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Wade McCandliss of Orange Grove. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. R. L. Summers, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Gardens. Riemann Funeral Home at Gulfport is in charge of arrangements."
