Francis Taylor Pearsons Plimpton, Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 21, 2014. He was known as "TP" and was born in New York City on March 9, 1928. He graduated from Amherst College in 1950. TP served in the Korean War as an officer aboard the USS Instill, a mine sweeper. He was a resident of Ormond Beach and enjoyed living by the water. TP had a very successful Landscape Architecture firm, Plimpton and Associates. He was active in the Daytona Orchid Society. TP was a member of the Ormond Beach Historical Society and was responsible for repairing and restoring the Ormond Beach Hotel cupola which stands in Fortunato Park along the Halifax River. He also designed the weathervane which stands on top of the cupola. He worked on the restoration of the Ames Park and oversaw the design and installation of the shelter and historical records. He designed and restored the Daytona Rose Garden on Beach Street in downtown Daytona. A co-founder of the Halifax Rowing Association, TP loved rowing and started a wonderful program called "Come and Row" to introduce the sport to the community. He enjoyed competing and raced in many regattas throughout his life. A staunch supporter of the Ormond Yacht Club, TP designed the club burgee with its distinctive red, white and blue design. He arranged to have the flag registered in the International Burgee Registry where it is now recognized worldwide. He often lent his private collection of burgees to decorate club events. Music gave him great joy and he played the flute daily at home and on Sundays at church. He enjoyed playing piano or guitar duets with friends and family. He treasured his collection of woodwind instruments.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Susan Wadsworth Plimpton; his sister and brother. TP is also survived by son and his wife, and daughter and her husband, as well as three grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and many dear friends. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
