Son of Isham Coggin and Sarah "Sally" Hearn.

Born in Montgomery County, North Carolina where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Company E (Montgomery Grays), 28th North Carolina Infantry at the age of 20 on August 1, 1861. Mustered in as Corporal. Discharged on October 15, 1862 by reason of "organic disease of heart".

The military marker for Daniel is incorrect regarding the regiment that he served with. He served in the 28th North Carolina and not the 28th Virginia.
