MR. JAMES ARTHUR BARTON, age 77, of Macclenny, Florida died Tuesday, May 9, 1995.

Mr. Barton had resided in Baker County all of his life and was the son of the late Martin and Anna Harvey Barton. He was a former deputy sheriff in Baker County for eight years and for twenty-four years he was employed as a Correctional officer at Raiford State Prison and the Baker Correctional Institute until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Barton was as member of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church of Baker County.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Barton; one daughter, Phyllis Lewis; adopted daughter, Martha Barton; adopted son, Russell Barton, all of Macclenny; three brothers, Lawrence Barton and T. J. Barton, both of Macclenny, and F. W Barton of Sanderson. FL.; three grandchildren. Jennifer Lewis and Tonya Barton both of Macclenny, and Greg Lewis of .Jacksonville; one great-grandson, William Lewis of Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. , Friday, May 12 in the Macclenny Primitive Baptist church with the Elder David Crawford, Pastor, officiating and assisted by Elder Aubrey McCormick, Pastor of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, FL.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM at Guerry Funeral Home, Macclenny, FL.
