Youngest of the nine children of Josiah Thomas Settle, Sr. and his second wife and former slave, Nancy Graves Settle. She married William E. Reynolds in 1873 and gave birth to four children, three daughters and a son, but only two lived to adulthood. Sadly, her daughter died at age 20 of consumption.
Josephine then lived with her sister Cornelia and husband after her husband passed away. They spent their time in Richmond, Indiana, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The death record has some errors in it, but mostly contains correct information. The informant was her pastor, Reverend Goggins.
