Halla Linker Aguirre died suddenly on August 16, 2023 of natural causes at the age of 93 in Los Angeles.
She had a remarkably adventurous life. She was born May 10, 1930 as Halla Kristín Guðmundsdóttir in the small town of Hafnarfjörður in Iceland. After graduating from Menntaskólinn in Reykjavík she met American travel documentary filmmaker, Harold (Hal) Norman Linker, who was filming in Iceland. They married and moved to Los Angeles.
Their travel documentary business had a great boost when they were offered to present on television at KCOP in Los Angeles in 1957. Their weekly television program, Wonders of the World was televised continuously for over seventeen years and was syndicated to over 40 domestic stations including KING 5 here in Seattle, and 11 foreign countries. The show featured the entire family and they personally filmed all of the footage shown. During their travels they visited over 100 countries. After Hal died in 1979, she donated their film library to the Human Studies Film Archive of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Halla maintained strong ties to her native Iceland. She received the Icelandic Order of the Falcon from Iceland 1970 for her service and served as honorary consul of Iceland in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1998.
While in the consular corps she met her second husband Ecuadorian Air Force General Francisco Aguirre in 1991 and they married in 1997.
She is survived by her husband Francisco, son David Thor Linker (Margaret), and grandchildren Matthew Stefan Linker and Alexandra Kristin Linker.
