Born on November 6, 1945 in Brooklyn NY, he was the son of the late Douglas and Rosemary Begbie. Robert had been living in Flanders for over 25 years before moving to Allamuchy Township two years ago.
Robert worked as a bus operator for New Jersey Transit for many years. He later transitioned to Cassidy Transport part-time as a driver for disabled children before retiring.
He loved to watch baseball and was an avid Mets fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lourdes (Nulot) Begbie, his dear children, daughter, Leonila Matus and her husband Stephen and son Christopher Begbie and his wife Ellen.
He is also survived by his eight cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Stephen and Jonathan Matus and Devon, Unity, Dawson, Noah and Hannah Begbie.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Gail Grove.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, located on 15 Furnace Rd., Chester, NJ 07930.
There will be a Funeral Service at the funeral home at 4:30pm on Sunday.
Interment will be held privately by the family.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
