She was born in Holyoke on May 4, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Raymond I. and Elizabeth S. (Jones) Chapin.
She was raised and educated in the Holyoke public schools and graduated from Holyoke High School in the class of 1944, furthering her education she graduated from Tufts College with a Bachelors of Science in psychology. She was married on August 6, 1949 to Dr. William Raymond Barnett in Holyoke and they celebrated sixty two years of marriage together until his death on May 18, 2012.
Marilyn became a Homemaker and a stay at home Mom, raising two children, she was able to participate and volunteer as a Den Mother for Scout Troop #204 and Brownie Leader. She was a member of the Helping Hand Society, Visiting Nurses Association, Corporator for the Ella Clark Home and a member of the Easthampton Congregational Church, she also loved the outdoors, camping, hiking and traveling.
She is survived by her family, her daughter; Laura Kersieck and her husband Joe of Rangely CO, three grandchildren; Rachel Barnett, Benjamin Joe Kerksieck, Rebekah Stevens and her husband Tyrel, five adored great grandchildren; Donovan Wiley Kersieck-Oyler, Izaiah Kremeron Moody, Colton Stevens, Wyatt Stevens and Blaine Stevens. A daughter in law; Marjorie (Chalfin) Barnett, widow to the late Paul Cameron Barnett, Marilyn's son who died on April 25, 2006.
Services for Marilyn will be held at the graveside at the Brookside Cemetery with a date and time to be scheduled at a later date.
