Lanett Cotton Mill (1894-2010), built by LaFayette Lanier in the town of Bluffton, Alabama, which at completion of north half of the mill in phase 1 in 1894, the town was granted a charter with the new name of Lanett, after LaFayette Lanier & Theodore Bennett, the two men responsible for the mill development.
The mill was built in two sections, the north half completed as stated above in 1894, the southern half & warehouses were completed in 1900, as was the first operations of the Lanett Bleachery & Dye Works, which sat on the north end of the mill.
The mill is located just 5 blocks south of the Lanett, Alabama/West Point, Georgia border on the Chattahoochie River.
The structure stayed pretty much the same shape, but the visual look changed over the years. The original phase 1 of the mill only had 1 tower as the mill ended just past the left tower. On top of the tower was a huge capacity water cistern. Phase 2 completed the mill with the southern half & both towers. The tops of the towers were taken off in a tornado, 4 brick towers were added to the front in the early 1970's to provide air conditioning for the factory & the windows were finally bricked up in the early 1970's, leaving the structure looking completely different than it does here. The mill has had 3 different office buildings, all three on the same spot right center front of the mill.

The mill was in continuous operation for 112 years, finally shutting down any remaining operations in 2006.
The mill will be completely razed by 2011, a piece of history gone. A "riverwalk park" is supposed to be developed in it's place. The Mill Office will remain as a museum of Lanett history & history of the West Point Manufacturing Co.

Lafayette Lanier passed away in this home.
The post card incorrectly states it was in West Point, GA. The Alabama-Georgia State Line runs just east of the property.
The mansion caught fire & was destroyed in 1918.
Clovernook II sits to the right of where the original was, but is a less ostentatious Tudor Revival home.
