Jerald D. "Bud" Nieder, 63, a 34-year Rock Island resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday evening, Oct. 6, 2000, following an extended illness.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1936, at Havelock, ND to Adam and Veronica (Wandler) Nieder.

He was raised and schooled in the Havelock and New England areas of North Dakota. He entered the U.S. Air Force in November of 1953 and served as an Airman until receiving his honorable discharge in September of 1957.

On Jan. 16, 1960, he was married to Sophie E. Dannenfelzer at Mile City, MT. They made their home in Hettinger, MT for a short time before moving to Billings, MT. In 1966, they moved to make their home in Rock Island. Bud went to work as a roofer for the J.N. Vail Roofing Company and continued working there until an injury accident in 1979, forced him to accept early retirement.

On Jan. 24, 1999, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie. Bud has since continued to make his home in Rock Island.

He enjoyed fishing, going for drives and having his family around him. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Hill of Rock Island and Suzanne Nieder of East Wenatchee; one brother, Marvin Nieder of Anchorage, AK; one half-brother, Richard Wandler of Jeannette, PA; two sisters, Wennoa Deeds of Eugene, OR and Kathleen Nieder of Minneapolis, MN; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sophie, two sons, Jerald Nieder, Jr. and Jeff Nieder, his parents, Adam and Veronica Nieder and one brother, Virgil Nieder.

Graveside inurnment services will be held Thursday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, with the Reverend Sam Perkins officiating.

The services will conclude at the Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
