A 22 year old Anderson man was killed Saturday in a fiery crash on U. S. 36 near Mooreland in Henry County.
Charles E. Abston, 522 Vinyard, died at 5:30 am Sunday at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. Delaware County Coroner Rodney Quakenbush stated Abston died of multiple internal injuries.
Larry E. Foley, 20, 912 College Drive, a passenger in the Abston vehicle, escaped with facial injuries and possible back injuries. He is listed in good condition at St. John's Hospital.
A spokesman for the Henry County Sheriff's department reported the Abston auto was traveling west on U. X. 36 when the driver sideswiped one auto and struck another vehicle headon. The vehicle heading east on U> S> 36 was operated by Larry Scheoll, Union City.
Police credited the driver in the sideswiped auto, James Holcomb, Losantville and an unidentified bystander with pulling the injured from their vehicles. The two men reported the Abston auto burst into flames shortly after the accident.
Four other persons were injured in the accident and are being treaded in Henry County and Delaware County hospitals.
Abston was born July 23, 1949, in Anderson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Abston. He had lived in the Madison and Delaware county area all his life, having graduated from Daleville High School.
Abston was a Vietnam veteran and had been employed as an attendant at the Meadowbrook Standard Service Station.
Survivors include the widow, Deborah; his mother, Mrs. Henry Rutledge, Daleville; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Joh Blagg, Anderson and a brother, Darrell Abston, Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 pm at Baker Brothers Funeral Home with the Reverend Lanis Kineman, Bethany Christian Church in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home after 2pm today.
