Thomas E. "Tom" Conrad Sr., 63, of Madison, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, on U.S. 421 south of Versailles in a motorcycle accident that also killed his wife, Carolyn Sue Pender Conrad.

He was born June 4, 1945, in Peru, the son of Edgar H. and Herma Runkle Conrad. He was raised in the Logansport community and was a graduate of Caston High School in Fulton. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1964 to April 1967 during the Vietnam War and remained in the Army Reserves until April 1970. He had lived in Madison since 1983. He was employed earlier in life with Exide and United Parcel Services. He retired from Roadway Express after 14 years of service. He had enjoyed driving a truck for 30 years when he retired and was a 30-year member of the Teamsters Union. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion, Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969, Fraternal Order of Police Stacks of Power, Madison Moose Lodge 765 and the former Madison Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Full military honors were conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.
