He is also survived by a son, Rev. Jim Dawson (wife, Sharon) of Pekin; a grandson, James Loren Dawson of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorna Jean Force.
Dr. Dawson served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed sharing his testimony of receiving Christ: "seven stories high in the new Kijo Building in Toyko, Japan in 1949". He later became a preacher of the Gospel and an author. He also had a Christian radio program in Beardstown for a few years. He served as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin for over 12 years.
He received a Doctorate from Indiana Baptist College as well as Huber Heights Christian College. He served as founder and president of the Illinois Baptist College back in the early 70's. A minister since 1957 in the pastorate, evangelism, as well as making annual mission trips to Barbados for 50 years. He loved "letting his light shine" for Christ. In 1975, he moved his ministry headquarters back to Virginia, IL and continued to serve in evangelism for many years. He recently was pastor of the Faith Baptist Church in Virginia. He had a great burden for the community and prayed fervently for people to know and receive the love of Christ.
He was an avid sportsman as a bow hunter and fisherman. He loved to hunt deer and wild turkey. But his greatest love was to share the glorious Gospel of Christ to all and everyone he would meet. He will be greatly missed but we KNOW we will see him again! 1Thess. 4:13 "But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope". His prayer would be that ALL would know the Hope of his Lord!
Services were entrusted to Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home of Virginia, Illinois.
