A Strandquist, Minn. man apparently froze to death in a ditch less than a mile from his home, according to the Marshall County sheriff's office. Foul play has been ruled out in the death of Gordon Lefrooth, 65, said chief deputy Herb Maurstad, Lefrooth was found at 9 a.m. Saturday in a ditch near the tavern where he was last seen, Maurstad said. He was taken by Karlstad Ambulance to a Karlstad, Minn., hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Maurstad said.

Victim of Cold, Buried at Strandquist

Services were held today for Gordon W. Lefrooth, 65, Strandquist, who froze to death Saturday night after he left the Rainbow Club at the south edge of Strandquist. His body was found in a ditch by his son Saturday about 9 a.m. about an eighth of a mile south of the Rainbow Club and about three blocks from his home. An autopsy revealed he had died of hypothermia. Marshall County Sheriff Dennis Brekke said no foul play is suspected.

Services were held in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist.

Pastor Henry Moyer and Rev. John A. Riveness officiated at the services. Interment was made in Mamrelund Cemetery near Strandquist with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of arrangements. Bearers were B. Wayne, L. Lefrooth, R. Borowicz, D. Weiler, V. Lefrooth and R. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. D. Lefrooth sang "Love Divine, So Great and Wondrous" and "Tears Are a Language God Understands", with Mrs. T. Johnson at the organ.

Mr. Lefrooth was born Oct. 25, 1924, in Warren, the son of Victor and Nannie Lefrooth. He grew up in the Strandquist area and married Frances Donaldson in January 1954 in Newfolden. They lived in Strandquist, where he worked for the Elmer Johnson Construction Company of Warren for 15 years and for Witcher Construction for 20 years. He was later employed as a farm laborer.

Survivors include two sons, J. Lefrooth of Strandquist and T. Lefrooth of Inver Grove Heights; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Oliver (Rose) Jevne of Strathcona, Mrs. Dick (Leila) Trawicki of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. R. (Y.) Borowicz of Maplewood; and a brother, Laurel Lefrooth of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James, a daughter, Joy Lynn, four brother and two sisters.
